Incorporating Alternative Therapies into Veterinary Medicine
Thanks to advancements in veterinary medicine, there are always new and innovative therapies that we incorporate into our patient's treatment plans.
We have vets trained to administer chiropractic treatments as a way to keep your horse feeling their best and in some cases, supplement medical treatments and rehabilitation.
Equine chiropractic care is commonly incorporated into the treatment of several conditions including musculoskeletal disorders and back pain as well as subluxations in the spine and extremities of horses.
Chiropractic Care For Horses
Chiropractic care is based on the idea of treating subluxations of the spine and extremities of horses. Subluxation is the decreased or abnormal movement of a joint. This decreased motion can be caused by inflammation of connective tissues within the vertebral canal and thus affects how the nervous system is able to communicate.
Chiropractic treatments correct these subluxations by applying a high velocity, low amplitude force into the joint. This allows the joint to realign within its normal range of motion. This is done after motion palpation of each joint to determine whether it has a normal or altered range of motion. The adjustment allows for better communication and functioning of the nervous system which decreases pain, allows for proper joint mobility and increases overall comfort.
