Get To Know Dr. Shaheen
Dr. Kaitlyn Shaheen grew up in Spicewood, Texas and was raised in 4-H, high school rodeo and competed in the Extreme Mustang Makeover with her mustang, Sebastian. As an undergraduate, Kaitlyn studied Animal Sciences and Psychology and spent time working at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital as a nurse technician. Dr. Shaheen then earned her DVM from Texas A&M University (Gig 'Em!).
After initially working as a mixed animal veterinarian, Dr. Shaheen pursued an intensive equine internship at Tryon Equine Hospital in North Carolina, with special emphasis on internal medicine, reproduction, lameness, diagnostic imaging, and wound management. She also spent time studying and enjoyed practicing small ruminant and camelid medicine while at Tryon! During her internship, Dr. Shaheen became a Permitted Treating Veterinarian for the International Federation for Equestrian Sports and was an on-course veterinarian at the 2022 Landrover Three-Day Event in Lexington, Kentucky.
Dr. Shaheen is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), Texas Equine Veterinary Association (TEVA), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) and the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP).
When not at the hospital, Dr. Shaheen spends her time riding her mustang Sebastian, working out, or hiking the local trails with her two dogs, Fergis and Daphne!
